Halloween Bat Craft

Bats are commonly associated with Halloween, but not many know Linlithgow Palace is also home to a colony of bats who are treated like ‘royalty’ much like the palace’s previous owners.

Try making your own DIY Halloween decoration to hang from your ceiling during the spooky season.

You will need

  • Approx. 1 metre of string/thread

  • Scissors

  • Sticky Tape

  • Paper or Card

  • Paint or Pens/pencils

  • Tracing paper

  • Hole Punch (optional)

What to do

Use our Template

Create your own Template

Step 1: If you don’t have a printer create your own bat stencil by drawing your own shape onto a strong piece of card.

Step 1: Print out our template and cut the bat shapes out. (Hint: why not use coloured paper)

Step 2: Cut it out and draw around it on paper/card of your choice. Then cut them out.

Step 2: Use the bats as they are or use them as stencils and draw around them on coloured paper of your choice. Then cut them out.

Step 3: Decorate your bats by drawing or painting them.

Step 4: Poke a hole through the wing of each of the bats. Use a hole punch if you have one.

Step 5: Thread string through the holes and place a small piece of tape over it to keep the bat in place. Do this for each bat placing them at equal distance from each other.

Step 6: Decide where to put your decoration and tape it in place. Will you hang it in the window or from the ceiling?

Enjoy your New Spooky decoration!
