Workshops

Our ‘World War Two’ school workshop was launched in September 2019. This is aimed at upper primary and explores West Lothian’s role in the Home Front through cross-curricular activities. To find out more please download our information sheet below. If you would like to book a visit, please download our booking form or contact the museum.

Further workshops are currently under development so please keep checking back for new activities. We are currently working on workshops on the ‘Curricular Economy’ and our first S.T.E.A.M workshop (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). More information coming soon.

Online workshops

We know some schools cannot visit us in person at the moment so we are currently developing our online offer so please get in touch with suggested school topics.

Handling Boxes

The museum has handling boxes for use in our community space and can be borrowed for use in the classroom.

Current handling boxes include:

  • Shoemaker’s Tools (Circular Economy)

  • Classroom Museum (make your own exhibition at school)

  • Around the House (Household Items)

  • Technology (From the humble brick to the Game Boy)

Self-led Visits

Schools are welcome to visit the museum for self-led workshops. We currently have two different worksheets that schools can choose to complete as part of their visit:

  1. Museum Quest Worksheet: Explore the galleries in more detail and encourage pupils to look closely at objects.

  2. Mary Queen of Scots Worksheet: Explore topics and objects that relate to the time of Mary.

Classroom Resources

If you cannot visit us in person at the moment, here are some resources you can use in the classroom. Some of these have been developed to use with West Lothian Council Museum Service Loan Boxes.

More activities coming soon.
