From the Museum: Ghost Stories for Christmas

This weekend should have been the Advent Fayre in Linlithgow. We wanted to mark the occasion and bring you something to brighten up the dark winter nights. So we are delighted to present 'Creepy Christmas'.

Over the next few weeks, we will be bringing you a, slightly, creepy #ChristmasStory to cosy up with and get you in the winter spirit. We loved working with storyteller Gillian and we hope you enjoy the results.

Museum Welcomes 10,000th Visitor!

We are proud to announce that we have welcomed our ten thousandth visitor!

Three special visitors were greeted with flowers last week as they entered Linlithgow Museum.

Ashleigh Stewart (10), Sophie Aitken (6) and Phoebe Aitken (2) were surprised, but pleased, to hear that they had taken the number of people visiting the new museum past the ten thousand mark!
Museum staff and volunteers were equally thrilled at the news.

“We were delighted to welcome Ashleigh, Sophie and Phoebe to the museum, and we hope that they enjoyed their visit,” said Norman Dowie, Chair of Linlithgow Heritage Trust, the charity behind the museum. “We like to offer a warm welcome to all our visitors, but there is something special about hitting the 10,000th visitor mark – especially as it’s been less than a year since we opened.”

The museum opened its doors in April last year and since then everyone involved has been working hard to make it a success. In October it was awarded a coveted five-star rating from Visit Scotland, marking it as a visitor attraction with an exceptional customer experience - and the museum’s events programme has also helped to bring visitors in too.

“The Trust is busy evaluating all the activity undertaken so far and a wider report, beyond visitor numbers, will be prepared shortly,” said Norman.

According to Norman, there are many people to thank for the ongoing success of the museum, but top of the list are the volunteers who give up their time and expertise to help. More are required, however, and the museum is particularly keen to find people to help in the galleries. Each shift lasts three hours and is not onerous. It simply involves welcoming visitors and manning the till in the shop.

So if you have three hours free per week (or per fortnight) and would like to find out more, please get in touch. Call Julia Branch on 01506 670677 or email julia@linlithgowmuseum.org.
