Volunteer Secretary - Linlithgow Heritage Trust

Linlithgow Heritage Trust is seeking a volunteer Secretary to join our Board. 

After completing many years with us, our current Secretary is stepping down, and we are now looking for an individual with excellent organisational skills to join the Board.  

About Linlithgow Heritage Trust

Linlithgow Heritage Trust runs the Linlithgow Museum, a well-established Accredited Museum and registered charity based in the Partnership Centre in the heart of the vibrant town of Linlithgow. The museum has big plans for exciting exhibitions, collecting and preserving local stories and artefacts and having a positive impact on young people’s education and people living with Alzheimer's and dementia.  

Role of the Secretary

The Secretary plays a key role on our Board by: 

  • Holding all documents that relate to the governance of the charity 

  • Maintaining a document index for all current governance documents 

  • Arranging Board meetings 

  • Agreeing the agenda for the Board meetings with the Chair 

  • Receiving papers for Board meetings and circulating these prior to the meeting 

  • Issuing notice of the Annual General Meeting 

  • Preparing (with others) the Annual Report and circulating to members 

 The Secretary will work closely with the Minute Secretary and the Membership Secretary, the Chair and the Treasurer to ensure the smooth running of Board meetings and compliance with necessary regulations relating to running a charity in Scotland.  

Skills and Experience

We are seeking someone with: 

  • Excellent organisational skills 

  • An understanding of charity governance (desirable but not essential). 

  • The ability to commit a few hours each month to Board meetings 

  • An interest in heritage, history or the arts.
