Community and Reminiscence
Sharing Memories. Connecting People
Linlithgow Museum is more than a place to discover the past — it's a place to share memories, stories and experiences.
We work with community groups and local organisations to explore Linlithgow's history, encourage conversation and create opportunities for people to connect with the stories of the town and its people.
Whether through reminiscence, community projects or exhibitions, we're always interested in finding new ways to work together.
Memories Matter
A photograph, familiar object or remembered place can unlock all sorts of memories.
Our reminiscence activities use objects, photographs and stories from the past to encourage conversation and shared memories. Sessions can explore themes such as childhood, school days, work, shopping, holidays, celebrations and everyday life in Linlithgow and beyond.
We also have access to a range of themed reminiscence object boxes, kindly loaned by West Lothian Council Museums and Archives Service. Filled with familiar objects from the past, the boxes provide wonderful prompts for conversation, memories and shared experiences.
Objects
Things to handle, examine and talk about.
Photographs
Historic images that prompt memories of places and people.
Stories
A chance to share experiences and hear those of others.
Your Memories Are Part of Our History
Museums don't only collect stories from hundreds of years ago. The memories and experiences of people living in and around Linlithgow are part of the town's history too.
Personal memories, photographs and stories can help build a richer picture of how Linlithgow and everyday life have changed over time. We want the Museum to be a place where those stories can be shared, valued and remembered.
Your Stories. Your Exhibition
Have a story you'd like to share with Linlithgow?
If your community group or organisation has a story to tell, a project to showcase or an anniversary to celebrate, we'd be happy to explore the possibility of hosting an exhibition at Linlithgow Museum.
We can work with you to develop your ideas, select material and help shape and design an engaging exhibition that shares your organisation's story with museum visitors.
You don't need to know how to create a museum exhibition — that's where we can help.
Working with Our Community
We're always interested in working with local groups, organisations and community partners to explore and celebrate Linlithgow's heritage.
That might mean contributing to a community project, exploring a particular part of the town's history, sharing knowledge and collections, developing an activity together or finding entirely new ways to tell Linlithgow's stories.
If you have an idea, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
