Life on the High Street

The post-war years to the 1970s

Step back in time and discover the stories of Linlithgow’s High Street through historic photographs, treasured objects, and everyday artefacts from the town’s past. This exhibition explores how the High Street has shaped daily life, work, and community over generations—revealing familiar buildings, forgotten businesses, and the people who lived, shopped, and gathered there. Together, these images and objects bring to life the changing character of Linlithgow’s heart, connecting past and present in a shared local story.

Every December for one special weekend, the magnificent St Michael’s Parish Church is transformed for the Festival of Christmas Trees. It’s a wonderful chance to wander through the church and enjoy dozens of beautifully decorated trees created by local community groups and organisations.

We’d love for you to come along, take in the festive atmosphere, and see Linlithgow Museum’s own tree on display. We’re delighted to support this fundraising event, with all money raised going to various chosen charities.
