Meet BB
Linlithgow Museum’s time-travelling adventurer
For a very long time, a rather special little black dog has been patiently waiting to be discovered.
Her name is BB.
Inspired by Linlithgow's famous Black Bitch legend, BB is no ordinary museum dog. Thanks to an unexpected encounter with Scotty, a journey aboard the Enterprise and a very special gift from the mysterious Gary Seven, BB can travel through time.
And now she's ready for some company.
Join BB as she journeys backwards and forwards through Linlithgow's story, meeting people from the past, exploring extraordinary places and discovering the real stories behind objects in the museum.
You never quite know where — or when — she'll turn up next.
A Dog with a very Linlithgow Story
BB takes her inspiration from one of Linlithgow's oldest and best-known legends.
According to the legend, a loyal black female greyhound tried to save her master after he was condemned to starve on an island in Linlithgow Loch. She repeatedly swam across the loch carrying food to keep him alive. When the authorities discovered what she was doing, the dog was captured and condemned to the same fate as her master.
BB's own story began in a strangely familiar way.
She too was found tied to a tree on an island.
But that's where the similarity ends.
Because BB's rescuer arrived via time warp!
How BB became a time traveller
During an unexpected time-warp incident, Montgomery “Scotty” Scott found himself in the right place — and the right time — to rescue BB.
Before long, she was safely aboard the USS Enterprise, where she settled remarkably quickly into life among the crew.
While enjoying her unexpected stay in the future, BB encountered another rather unusual traveller: the mysterious Gary Seven.
Gary recognised an adventurous spirit when he saw one and gave BB a very special collar.
It wasn't an ordinary dog collar.
It allowed her to travel through time.
And so BB became Linlithgow Museum's time-travelling adventurer.
Look closely at her tag and you'll discover that a little piece of home travels with her too. Its blue and yellow colours reflect Linlithgow, while the two wavy lines represent the waters of Linlithgow Loch.
Wherever — or whenever — BB goes, Linlithgow goes with her.
Since then, her collar has taken her backwards and forwards through Linlithgow's story — exploring ancient landscapes, meeting people from centuries ago, investigating museum objects and occasionally finding herself much further from home than she intended.
Exactly where — or when — BB will appear next is anyone's guess.
But wherever there's a Linlithgow story waiting to be discovered, there's a good chance BB won't be far away!
