Linlithgow Museum is committed to making our website as accessible and easy to use as possible.

We want as many people as possible to be able to access information about the Museum, our collections, exhibitions, events and activities.

Using This Website

We aim to make our website clear and straightforward to use.

  • understand the website's content through clear headings and straightforward language; and

  • access meaningful descriptions for important images.

Accessibility Standards

We are working to make this website conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.

These internationally recognised guidelines explain how to make digital content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities and access needs.

This is where we'll state whether the website is fully compliant, partially compliant or not compliant and list any accessibility issues we identify.

I strongly suspect we'll end up saying partially compliant, at least initially. That's not a failure. Even GOV.UK currently describes its enormous main website as partially compliant. It's much better to say “we know these two things aren't quite right yet and we're working on them” than make an unsupported claim of perfect accessibility.

We aim to provide alternative text for images where the image conveys useful information.

Images that are purely decorative may not require alternative text.

Some historical images, collection material or other visual content may be difficult to describe fully. If you need information about an image or object in another format, please contact us.

Documents & Historic Material

Some older documents, scanned historical material or archive content may not be fully accessible.

Where possible, we will provide accessible alternatives or additional information on request.

Third-Party Content

Some parts of our website may use content or services provided by third parties, such as maps, videos, social media or external booking and payment services.
